A last minute reminder- the organizational meeting for the interscholastic Chess League for the Buffalo area is tonight at Cheektowaga High School at 3:30pm. Any one wishing to enter a team should be there! Or contact Scott at the Rochester Chess Center 585-442-2430 to see if you can still get in.

PURPLE PAWNS BLITZ TOURNAMENT

The Archangel 8 Chess Academy in conjunction with Niagara University is establishing a weekly Collegiate Chess Club.
In honor of October being National Chess Month, they will be hosting a three round thriller open quick Game/15 Quad Format tournament from Noon until 2pm in The Gallagher Center on the beautiful Niagara University campus on Friday October 15, 2010.

This tournament is for the faculty, staff, and students of Niagara University as well as the local chess community. So come out and help us celebrate National Chess Month. There will be limited chess sets and boards, and seating. First come first served!

Advance online entries with full name, telephone number and USCF ID (if you have one) to arcangel8chess@yahoo.com no later than midnight Thursday, October 14, 2010. Digital chess clocks are needed!

Games will be started promptly at Noon, 12:30pm & 1pm. Players are asked to be checked in and seated for competition no later than 11:45am. Players will be assigned to a Quad and the winners of each Quad will be awarded a prize.

UNDEFEATED KENNETH W. REGAN, Ph.D, WINS!

International Master Kenneth W. Regan, Ph.D goes undefeated at the September Friendship Chess Festival 2010, held at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center in Buffalo, New York.

This was the final event of the summer and I want to personally thank the new attendance record of 28 chess players who supported our efforts. Newcomers to the Buffalo Chess community were Andrew and Ansgarius Aylwand, Craig Schneider from Erie, PA, Marcus D. Richardson, and Joshua Graf. Returnees and newly renewed their USCF memberships were Alexander Regan and Bryan Castro.

The final results were the 2010 September Friendship Festival Undefeated Champion, Kenneth W. Regan, International Master and 2nd Place winner, Barry Davis, National Master. U1800 Class winners were Ryan Madden and Bryan S. Castro. The U1600 Class winners were Matthew Peck, James P. Davis, David Gluchowski, Marcus D. Richardson, Andrew Aylward and Ansgarius Aylward.

Upset Leaders were Alexander Regan, the only youth player from Nichols achieved 639 pts, Michael Skok - 239 pts, James J. Paul - 165.5 pts, Bryan S. Castro - 163 pts, Glenn Westcott - 99.5 pts and Barry Davis - 6 pts.

Our next tournament, Saturday, October 16, 2010, we will return back to the Main Place Mall, 390 Main Street, Buffalo NY, for the remainder of the year to celebrate National Chess Month.

Also join us for the Archangel 8 Chess Academy, "Dual Simul" Chess Exhibition on Sunday, October 17th at the Walden Avenue, Borders Bookstore in Cheektowaga NY. The Dual Simul will feature International Master, Kenneth W. Regan and Barry Davis, National Master both are from Buffalo NY. Seating is limited, First come, First served! Vinay Sharma wins Sardinia scholastic

Newcomer Vinay Sharma(left) of Niagara Falls, Ontario won the Sardinia scholastic tournament last Saturday. He did it convincingly by winning 11 games and losing none! A fine performance by the 12 year old.

Sam Santora of Kenmore lost only to Vinay to finish 2nd. Todd Thompson and Luke Grisanti tied for 3rd with 7 pts.

Other participants were Zach Madden, Bobby Mahiques, Hunter Witt, Nate and Nick Schiener, Max Peters, Nick Brennan, and James Lyon who played in his first tournament and scored a very respectable 4 pts.

Next tournament Oct. 9th. See you there!

DUAL SIMUL EXHIBITION 2010 at BORDER BOOKS!

The Borders Bookstore in conjunction with The Archangel 8 Chess Academy to help celebrate and promote National Chess Month in October 2010 will host a Dual Simul Exhibition.

To help promote the Royal Game of Chess, the exhibition will feature two of Buffalo's best players, International Master Kenneth W. Regan, Ph.D, the Buffalo Mayor's Cup Masters 2008 & 2010 Champion and National Master, Barry Davis.

Registrations are limited seating, so we are asking the Buffalo Chess Community to come out and support this "FREE EVENT".

Sardinia Tournament this Saturday

HAVEY WINS U1800 132nd NYS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to Benjamin Havey, Kenmore NY, won first place in the U1800 section this weekend in Albany, NY at the 132nd NYS Championship. Others in the same section were Daniel Johnston finished 12th, Pierce Cummings finished 20th and Thomas Warner finished 27th. Trevor Cohn, Kenmore NY won three of six games, finished 29th in the U1300 section, a nice performance by WNY. They are now traveling back home.

Presented by Buffalo Fire Commissioner, Garnell W. Whitfield, Jr., in conjunction with THE ARCHANGEL 8 CHESS ACADEMY.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30TH, 2010 held at the George K Arthur Community Center, 2056 Genese Street, Buffalo, NY 14211.(West of Genesee St and Harlem Road).

This is a NATIONAL CHESS MONTH SCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNAMENT for students in grades 2nd thru 8th grades. This tournament is for UNRATED chess players and USCF Rated chess players. US Chess Federation rules are ENFORCED!

Sections are UNRATED and USCF RATED. FIVE Rounds, SWISS, GAME 30.

TROPHIES AWARDED TO THE TOP FOUR WINNERS IN EACH SECTION.

Each participant must bring a Chess Set, Chess Board and Chess Clock.

GAMES will start at NOON, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Awards and pictures to follow!

Trophies are provided by the Schiller Park Chess Club.

ADVANCED ENTRIES ARE $10 or $15, Cash only at the door.

One Open Section, FOUR Rounds, SWISS, Games one & two are Game 60. Games 3 & 4 are Game 90, USCF membership is required! This is a US Chess Federation OPEN Rated tournament. One half point Bye available with advance notice to the Tournament Director at check in.
