GOLDEN KNIGHTS OF LOCKPORT CHESS CLUB 2014



Pictured are 25 of the 30 students who have registered for the Golden Knights Scholastic Chess Club which will meet on Monday nights at the Charles Upson Elementary School while looking for a new home since the Lockport Youth Center was CLOSED in December 2013!

There were 13 female chess players a fantastic number for girls and 18 other the chess players were from Charles Upson Elementary School who are beginners and learning the chess basics.

Two brothers JonLuke and Andrew Pencille have signed up for the upcoming NYS Scholastic Chess Championships in Saratoga Springs NY on March 1 and 2nd, 2014. We need help to send 14 Golden Knights to the USCF National K-9 Scholastic Chess Championships in Atlanta GA during the month of April 2014.

We are looking for DONATIONS for Coach Bus for transportation, Overnight stay in the Hotel, USCF memberships, USCF Entry fee per student, POLO Shirts, Team Jackets, Staunton Chess Sets, Algebraic Vinyl Boards, Saitek digital chess clocks and Scorebooks.

PAWNMASTER MEMORIAL CLASSIC RESULTS 2014



The Mc Duffie Family would like to extend a special thanks to all who supported this special chess event! David "PawnMaster" would have celebrated his 51st birthday on Feb 6th. On Feb 15th in Baltimore MD, we will host the second annual David W. "PawnMaster" Mc Duffie Scholastic (K-12) Tournament hosted by Maryland State Chess Association, which is a qualifying tournament for the UMBC Scholarship Tournament. Last year it played host to over 250 scholastic players in Baltimore MD. Teams came from Washington DC, New Jersey, PA and VA.

The Final Results for the K-4 Section were TOP FEMALE AWARD winner was Alivia Walton, K-4 Champion was Ethen Walton both from the Old 1st Ward Community Center, 2nd Place - Phineas Cox, Olmsted Wise Chess Club and 3rd Place - Jessica Macadlo. The FINAL Results for the K -10 Section were Undefeated PawnMaster Memorial Classic Champion was Shaka Davis, son of National Master Lionel Davis, 2nd PLACE - Austin Gallego, Bishop Timon and 3rd PLACE - Rahni Alasri from the Old 1st Ward.

The FINAL RESULTS for the 2014 PawnMaster Memorial U1600 Section were Undfeated Champion - Christopher Darling from Pioneer Chess Team, 2nd PLACE - Kyle Kostek from Bishop Timon Chess Team and a 3rd PLACE Tie - Matthew Sadowski, Steve Baer and Matthew Rzeznik, Bishop Timon Chess Team.U1600 WENDY's UPSET LEADERBOARD winners were Matthew Sadowski with 291 points for defeating Matthew Rzeznik and Kyle Kostek with 109 points for defeating Steve Baer.

The FINAL RESULTS for the 2014 PAWNMASTER MEMORIAL OPEN SECTION were Co Champions - National Master Barry Davis and National Master Lionel L. Davis, both were close friends of Pawn Master Mc Duffie. 3rd PLACE Tie - Brian W. Sayers and James J. Paul, OD. The WENDY's UPSET LEADERBOARD winners were Joshua Benham(1415) for 570 points by defeating (1761) Patrick Robinson, Emory Parish with 255 points, Brian Sayers with 420 points, Ken Crumpler with 200 points, Joshua Dunsworth from Erie PA with 149 points, James J Paul OD with 136 points, Stephen Hedges with 97 points, National Master Barry Davis with 38 points and Benjamin Rummell with 30 points.

The final days of 2013 were a disaster for me. While hosting a Lockport Scholastic Chess tournament, the motherboard on my computer died, delayed paychecks, hospital and repairs to my car made things very financially difficult.

Back up and running again with a new chess equipment, we are extending registrations for midnight on Friday, Jan 17th for THE PAWNMASTER MEMORIAL CLASSIC to be held on SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, 2014 at the Old First Ward Community Center, 62 Republic Street, Buffalo NY.

TOTAL CASH PRIZES OF $1015.00 BASED ON 40 PLAYERS! PIZZA AND REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED for tournament players!

NEW CHESS FORMAT: FOUR USCF DUAL SANCTIONED GAMES with Games 1 and 2 are Game 60 with a 5 second delay, Games 3 and 4 are Game 90 with a 5 second delay! Sections of Play will be OPEN and U1600! SCHOLASTIC K-12 STARS (Unrated) will play four games, game 30 with a 5 second delay. Scholastic Stars must report by 9:30am, Games will start at 10am!

FIRST KENMORE OPEN 2014; 5rds, Swiss, Game 60!


The Amateur Chess Association of WNY is hosting the First Kenmore Open Chess Tournament. The Open Tournament will play over five consecutive Thursday nights starting on Thursdays evenings January 9, 2014. The format is Five (5) USCF rated, Game 60 with 5 second delay, one game per week held at the Kenmore United Methodist Church, Kenmore NY. ENTRY FEE is $10.00 per player. Entries close at 6:45pm, Games start at 7:30pm.
