White to move

White is piece down. What can he do? Is he lost? or can he draw or win?

  1. hmm, very interesting position indeed, Originally i looked at Qg7? but after Qxb1+ Kxb1 Rxd1++ and that doesn't really seem to work, I am not looking at R3h1 as a way to stave off the black invasion..but that seems to fail to Ba2, How about R3d3, i'll let somebody else take over on the analysis on this one.

  2. R3d3 is interesting josh, but it also fails to ...Ba2

Black will able to win the white pawn on f6 at the end of a forced variation after ...Ba2 and still be material up.

  3. 1.R1d3 RxR 2.RxR should work. (1. ...Ba2 2.Qh6 Qxb1+ 3.Kd2 RxR 4.RxR and win.) Did I miss something?

  4. Yes Marijan, R1d3 actually wins for White. There is no proper defense to Qh6 and Qg7.
