UB Chess is back!
Just wanted to let everyone know the UB Chess Club is back. Our meetings are Tuesdays from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. in the Student Union, room 250 (upstairs from the foodcourt) everyone is welcome to join! On another related note we will be holding our first bughouse tournament September 30th in the Flagroom (located in the student union, 2nd floor) entry is $20/team. Registration starts at 10 with games starting at 11. Food will be provided. First place prize will be a $50 visa gift card and second prize will be a $25 visa gift card. Hope to see you all there!
Battle of Lake Erie FIDE Championships Final Results
The Final Round 5 was dedicated in memory of my brother, "Pawn Master" David Wayne Mc Duffie who passed away in Baltimore, MD on Friday, August 24, 2012.
FIDE rated chess players can achieve Grand Master title without earning Norms and can participate in other sponsored tournaments internationally.
Round 5 finished with Anna Levina draws NM Barry Davis, CM Scott Riester draws NM Lionel L. Davis, Chris Bieniek defeated James P. Davis, CM Mark J. Clark defeated Charles A. Lubas and Erik W. Lubas defeated Richard W. Glew.
Our next tournament will be held on Sat Sept 22 at the 13th annual Freedom Trail Chess Festival, Earl Brydges Niagara Falls Public Library, 1425 Main Street,Niagara Falls, NY. Entry fee is $10 and players must report by 10:30am to play 4 USCF dual rated games.
The Lockport Golden Knights Chess Club meets every monday night from 6pm to 8pm at 400 Willow Street Recreation Center. Membership is required with payment to the Lockport Youth Recreation Center. Chess sets and boards are provided.

Day Two - Round 4 Results
Round 4 has been completed dominated by draws. Board 1 had Anna Levine(2080) draws Lionel Davis(2239), Board 2 Barry Davis(2209) draws Scott Riester(2205), Board 3, Erik Lubas(1932) draws Mark Clark(1996), Biard 4, Charles Lubas(1710) draws Chris Bieniek(1418), Richard Glew from Canada defeated James Davis.
The final matches are scheduled to start at 2:15pm. There is still a 4 way tie, all have earned 3pts, NM Barry Davis, NM Lionel Davis, Anna Levine and CM Scott Riester(Minnesota).

NAVY WEEK RESULTS - DAY ONE
The Naval opening ceremonies started with a Naval Color Guard, pledge of allegience and IM Kenneth W. Regan, Ph.D sang the canadian national anthem.
In the Naval Admiral Team section, a section dedicated to honor the African americans and females of the WAR of 1812. Females represented were Betsy Doyle and Lucy Brewer, Hannibal Collins, The Battalion of Free Men of Color and The Colonial Marines called Merikans. There were six uniformed sailors, two each represented the HMCS Ville de Quebec, USS Hurricane and USS De Wert which are docked in the Buffalo Harbor.
The Naval Admiral Team Championship was won by HMCS Ville de Quebec, USS Hurricane and USS De Wert. earning individual honors were USS Hurricane, HMCS Ville de Quebec, HMCS Ville de Quebec and USS De Wert.
The overall results finished with a three way tie which included James Lyon and Ashton William, a Heim Elementary 2nd grader and The USS Hurricane, all earned three points. Top females were Dekayla Dubose and Laura Cohn, a Lindbergh Elementary 4th grader. Shaka Davis didnt play but was called to duty to help with algebraic notation for one of the sailors.
The Scholastics results were Co Champions James Lyon and Ashton William, 3rd place - Dekayla Dubose and 4th place Laura Cohn.
Kudos for Ashton William(545) defeated Dekayla Dubose, 7th grader. Also Dekayla Dubose(744) defeated James Lyon(1081)and all three players did defeat a naval sailor.
Results of the Colonial Marines U1800 section are Co Champions David S. Miller and Jerome J. Green, 3rd place tie was Kevin N. Roulhac and Jason Zhou.
Upsets were the story of the day were in Round 2, Jerome Green(1287) defeated Steve Baer(1342), Round 3 had Jerome Green(1287) defeated James Paul(1495) and Kevin Roulhac(1730) draws with Jason Zhou(1736) and in the Finals Jerome Green(1287) defeated Kevin Roulhac(1730) and David Miller(1581) defeated Jason Zhou(1736).
In the Hannibal Collins/Commodore Oliver Perry Open Section completed day one with fireworks of its own. There is a four way tie for first place with NM Barry Davis(2209), Anna Levine(2080), NM Lionel Davis(2239) and CM Scott Riester from Minnesota with 2.5pts. International Master Kenneth W. Regan(2409) was defeated in Round 2 by Candidate Master Scott Riester(2205) then lost to NM Lionel Davis in Round 3. Anna Levine defeated Candidate Master Mark Clark(1996) from Jamestown, NY and draws CM Scott Riester in Round 2. NM Barry Davis draws Lionel Davis in Round 2

13th Annual FREEDOM TRAIL CHESS FESTIVAL 2012
The Freedom Trail Festival Committee of Niagara Falls Professor Blackburn of the Niagara University and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy is hosting a Chess Festival to help celebrate the history of the Underground Railroad.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2012
4 games, USCF Dual rated, Game/30;d5, tournament at the Earl Brydges Niagara Falls Public Library, located at 1425 Main Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
Entry Fee is $10 per player, USCF membership required, Cash only at the door. Can join or renew USCF memberships at the door.
Please register in advance by midnight, friday, September 21, 2012 with full name, section, USCF number and telephone to arcangel8chess@yahoo.
All players are to report and be ready to play by 10:30am. Please bring chess set, chess board and digital chess clock. Limited supply available.

NAVY UNIFORMED CHESS PLAYERS CONFIRMED!
Thanks for the early email registrations, we are in need of scholastic chess players K-6th grades to play 4 games against Navy uniformed sailors for the War of 1812 Navy Fleet Week community activities. Scholastic EF $10 Cash only at the door.
All players are to report on Saturday, Sept 15th by 9:30am, please email full name, grade, school and telephone to arcangel8chess@yahoo.com by midnight, friday, September 14th.
Other sections of play with USCF membership are FIDE Open, EF$75 or $80 Cash at the door, U1800, EF $35 or $40 Cash at the door and U1400, EF $35 or $40 Cash at the door. Cash prizes based on 24 entries.

BUFFALO NAVY FEET WEEK 2012
Buffalo Navy Fleet week has started and I wanted to remind you to register for the Battle of Lake Erie FIDE International Chess Championships to be held on Sat. September 15th, Old First Ward Community Center, 62 Republic, Buffalo, NY.
Sections are Two day schedule, FIDE Open, Game 120;d5, FIDE and USCF dual rated, Players must report by 9:30am, Games start at 10am, 2:30pm and 7pm, Sunday at 10m and 2:30pm, Cash only Entry fee at the door $80. USCF membership required, Please bring chess clock, chess set and chess board.
One Day - Saturday Only - U1800 and U1400 Sections based on 24 players, 4 Games, Game 60;d5, USCF dual rated. Players must report by 9:30am, Games start at 10am, 12:30pm, 3pm and 5:30pm. Cash only at the door $40 per player.
Admiral Naval Exhibition Section; K-12 chess players to play an exhibition games against Navy uniformed sailors from the visiting ships docked in the Buffalo harbors. There will be a brief meet and greet of the Admiral while she is in town. Games start at 10am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Cash only entry fee at the door $10.00 per student. Trophies awarded.
Chess Vendor - Rochester Chess Center by Ron Lohrman, Rochester, NY, come out and help support us in our end of the summer Chess Festival! FIDE rated and Canadian players are welcomed with a $10 discount in each section of play, USCF membership required!

Copeland Wins in Sardinia
Sam Copeland won the Labor Day tournament in Sardinia Sept 3rd. Sam beat Chris Darling and Mark Clark in Rds 1 and 2, drew Marjan Procyk in round 3 and won over Pat Patterson in round 4 to finish with 3.5/4. Unfortunately for Sam, the draw stopped him from reaching the Master level (his post tournament rating is 2197). Don't worry Sam it will happen soon!
Mark Clark of Jamestown and Jarret Minkler from Lockport finished tied for 2nd with 3/4 with Minkler winning the u1400 prize.
Other participants were Zach Madden, Wes Darling, Todd Thompson, Max Peters, Nathan Palmisano and Adam Pesta - who traveled 3 hrs from Ithaca to play in Sardinia!
Zach Madden won the scholastic section over Nate Palmisano, Max Peters, Todd Thompson, and James Lyon of Hamburg. Thanks to all for participating.
Next tournament Columbus Day, October 8th.
