KLCC JUNE GRAND PRIX 2008 RESULTS

First off, I want to welcome Ms. Asal Nassir, a New York Life Insurance Company agent, as our new Chess Sponsor. Ms. Nassir has donated prizes for raffle and or door prizes for future chess events. The Kellogg Leadership for Community Change (KLCC) June Grand Prix attracted 28 players, including competitors from Cleveland, Ohio and Welland, Ontario, Canada. Thomas Warner, while competing in the Cleveland Open last weekend, ran into some old chess friends-the Grabowski's and invited them to return home to play chess. This prompted Eric Grabowski (2120) to do so yesterday. Meanwhile, Aquino Inigo (2088 CFC), a 12 year old rising star from Welland Ontario, Canada, also made a return visit to Buffalo chess competition. Being either a distant visitor or a recent Class Champion from this year's 20008 Mayor's Cup and Class Championship bode well for a excellent result as seen below:
  • In The David Evans Jr Memorial U1200 Section, Partho Bhattacharya, this year's Class E Champion, finished first. George Barton was clear second while a four place tie for third included Erik Lubas, Michael Hoffman, Ryan Madden and Vic Bahl.

Davis and the aforementioned Aquino Inigo the young Canadain chess expert who was born in Tamil Nadu, India. Cleveland's Eric Grabowski and our Class B Champion, Thomas Warner, tied for third place.
