  1. Where did you get that information that I was born in Changshou, China? I was not born there. I was born in Oakland, Califorina.

  2. Hi everyone, would it be possible to post the scores of dr. regans games with some annotation? It would be great if someone would submit an article to the uschess website.

  3. I will try to do that---I intended to last night but only had time to key in the moves since I was enmeshed in installing Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Lionel Davis and I both missed---not only at the board but also analyzing the game yesterday---an "obvious" move that converts my committal ...h4!? push from a bad idea into an excellent one. This has me seriously wondering about unconscious versus conscious brain function, as I'll try to explain when I give more detail of what was going thru our minds. My chess programs also expose flaws in my assessment of my double-pawn-sac against Bob Shao (e.g. Black can castle safely after all), but other than those two my play comes off well. Andy Soltis' column in the current June Chess Life has some musings on how computers influence our appreciation of sacrifices---if you're logged in to uschess.org as a member you can also read it online here.

Thanks for the tournament and the chance to play games the way I remember from the 1970s---actually, Barry Davis told me our game was very like one we played in NYC in the 1970s :-)!

"Congrats to Partho for getting second. He played well and fought hard in all his matches. The only game he didn't win was against the 1st place winner, and even that one was almost a draw."

  5. Ken,

Congratulations! Thank you for playing again and please keep going as the new trophy room may soon rival the one back in the old home of the 1970's!

    Michael,
Thanks for staging another great event. I am certain next year it will be bigger and better.

Congrats also to Bob, Tom, David, William, Partho, and Ben. Well done to you "classy gentlemen".

Perhaps next year we might see Marijan and Felix play too?

  6. Ah!---change what I said about my game with Shao. If you let the engines run longer, they start to like my 2-pawn sac! More anon, if not sooner...
