Quiz for 2/10

Here is another interesting position that was played by novice chess players at the Stella Niagara school chess club. They are not taught openings so this is not a typical Sicilian sequence. Black thought he was clever attacking the pinned knight twice.
The moves were 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3. d4 Bg4 4. d5 Nd7 5. d6 Ne5
White to move.

    Elementary, my dear Watson. Did he do it or did he rather like Q to much. N first.

    Yes, the correct response is 6.Nxe5!!
    as 6...Bxd1
    7.Bb5+! Qd7(forced)
    8.Bxd7+ Kd8(forced)
    9.Nxf7+ Kxd7
    10.Kxd1 any
    11.Nxh8

    So white has garnered N,Q,p,B,R for only Q and B in return.

    This is a Legall's pseudo-sacrifice pattern.

    Black's best after 7.Nxe5 is, saddly for him, the retreat 7...Bd7
