WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH CHESS ARTICLE


Local newspaper BlackWNY March 2013 Issue 19, Women Edition has published a "Girl Power" Urban Queens Chess article featuring two scholastic chess scholars, Dennisia Stallings and Kierea Truitt from the George K Arthur Chess Club an afterschool enrichment chess program in the Genesee - Bailey area.

The girls will be participating in the upcoming local USCF Scholastic Chess Tournament on Sat. April 20th, 2013 in the Main Place Mall, 390 Main St, Buffalo, NY. BUFFALO CHESS IRISH OPEN HOUSE 2013 RESULTS



The results of the Buffalo Chess Irish Open House 2013 was Champion National Master Barry Davis, 2nd Place Tie - Matthew Newuiett and Kevin Roulhac, 4th Place Tie - Owen E Miller and newcomer Quentin Hill.

The chess players were able to get 5 games, Game 40, Swiss play. We would like to invite you to come out for the April Open House on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Noon, Games start at 12:15pm to 4:30pm.

IRISH DAY CHESS OPEN HOUSE



Hosted by the downtown Buffalo Public Library and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy. An official enrichment monthly Chess program for the Buffalo Public Central Library. The Archangel 8 Chess Academy is an official local affiliate with the US Chess Federation, the governing body of chess in the United States.

Join us on Sunday, March 17, 2013, Buffalo Public Central Library, One Lafayette Square, Buffalo, NY. The doors open at Noon, Games will be played in the Fables Cafe at 12:15pm till 4:30pm. All players should bring a chess set, chess board and digital chess clock, limited supply are available. Group photos and individual photos will be taken during tournament play.

Chess players will play three to four games, no elimination, Game 40, USCF rules enforced, ie. "Touch Move"! Chess players of all ages, all levels and females are encouraged to participate.

ST PATRICK'S DAY CLASSIC 2013 RESULTS


Thirty one chess players participated in the 2013 St Patrick's Day Open Chess Classic held in the Main Place Mall, Buffalo, NY.

Welcome returning USCF members were Nathan Braasch, Malcolm Maast and Robert Hughes, all competed in the Pope Francis 2013 Open Section of play.

The results fromm the David W. "PawnMaster" Mc Duffie Scholastic K-9 Section was K-4 Scholastic Champion, Ethen Warner, Pioneer Chess Club, Sardinia New York. 2nd Place went to Boy Scout Troop 227 - Devon Walsh, Old First Ward Community Center and TOP Female was Urban Queen - Sidney Reed, Pioneer Chess Club which was her first chess trophy. In the K-9 Section, Undefeated Champion was Shaka E. Davis, (son of Lionel Davis), 2nd Place went to Jackson Mitchell, Gloria J Parks Chess Club and TOP Female was awarded her first chess trophy to Nia Worsham from Enterprise Charter Chess Team.

Results in the U1500 was named after the famous african american business woman, Maggie L. Walker in honor of Womens Month. Ryan Palmisano was the undefeated Champion, Pioneer Chess Club, 2nd Place tie were Steve L. Baer, Zachary Madden and Urban Queen - Dekayla Dubose in her first outing in the U1500 Section, all were awarded cash prizes!

The winners of the WENDY's Restaurant Upset Leaderboard were in the following order; Dekayla Dubose(749) with 534.5 pts, Ryan Palmisano(1124) with 200 pts, Ashton William(729) with 131 pts. and Steve L. Baer(1216) with 124 pts.

We named the Pope Francis I Open Section after the newly elected Pope Francis I in Rome. The Co Champions were Urban Knight Chess members National Master Barry Davis and National Master Lionel Davis, a 3rd Place Tie went to David Miller, Erik Lubas and Urban Knight Chess member Kevin Roulhac.

In the Wendy's Restaurant Upset Leaderboard were Chess Ambassador, Michael A. Mc Duffie(1015) with 648 pts, James P Davis, Esq.(1420) with 570 pts, David Miller(1629) with 479 pts, Matthew G. Peck(1530) with 283 pts, Nathan Braasch(1654) with 215 pts, Barry Davis(2192) with 33 pts and James J Paul, OD(1524) with 6pts.

This tournament is a Four games, No elimination, Game 50; d5, Open, USCF Dual rated Chess tournament. USCF membership is required! CASH Prizes of $570.00 based on 36 players for Open and U1500 sections of play.

Entry fee is $25 or $35 CASH at the door by Thursday, March 14th. Players must report by 9am, Games start at 9:30am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm. OPEN Cash Prizes are $200, $100 and $60 based on 18 players, U1500 Cash Prizes are $120, $60 and $30 based on 18 players!

Scholastic Stars K-9 Grade Section is a four games, Game 30;d5, no elimination, Scholastic Chess Tournament. Entry fee is $10 or $15 Cash at the door by Thursday, March 14th. Scholastic chess players are to report by 10am. Games start at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm with Trophies awarded to the TOP 3 Winners and TOP Female in each section.

Madden, Patterson tie in Sardinia



 Ryan Madden and Pat Patterson won their first 2 games then drew against each other in the last game and tied for 1st in the Sardinia March tournament. Malcolm Mast, who was a regular at the North Tonawanda chess club about 20 yrs ago returned to tournament chess and won 2 of 3 games, Welcome back Malcolm! Max Peters, Austen Harris, and Sidney Reed also played in the open section.
 In the scholastic section Max Peters won 10 games to win the trophy while Ethen Warner won the u150-unrated section. Austen Harris, Chris and Douglas Ward, Keegan Kempf, James Lyon,  and David Stephan competed in the scholastic section while Sidney Reed, Seth and Daniel Babbitt, Matt Schantz and Brody Hopkins competed in the u150-unrated. Thanks to all!
