LOCKPORT KNIGHTS CHESS CLUB MEETS!

The Lockport Knights Chess Club will officially meet for the next six weeks at the Lockport Youth Center located at Transit Road and Willow Avenue, Lockport, NY.

The first meeting will be Monday night, November 1, 2010 from 6:45pm until 8:30pm. Chess Sets, chess boards are provided. The chess club is open to all ages and all levels of play.

The club will host a six week chess league play and their is currently 12 players who have signed up for the league. If you are interested, please RSVP to arcangel8chess@yahoo.com. Registration is being handled by the Lockport Youth Center and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy with further details to follow tonight.

A special thanks to Robert Simpson, Simpson & Simpson,LLC., donated a digital chess clock to the Archangel 8 Chess Academy for usage with the Lockport Knights Chess Club.

PURPLE PAWNS CHESS CLUB MEETS!

Niagara University Office of (MISA)Multicultural & International Student Affairs in conjunctin with The Archangel 8 Chess Academy has decided to establish "The Purple Pawn" Chess Club and will have their first official meeting on Friday, November 5, 2010 from Noon until 2:30pm at the Niagara University Gallagher Center. RSVP please reply to Arcangel8chess@yahoo.com no later than midnight on thursday, November 4th with full name and telephone number.

Please bring chess set, chess board and chess clock. Limited chess equipment available.

The next scheduled meeting will be friday, December 3, 2010 at the Gallagher Center. The 2011 schedule will be announced when the details are confirmed.

GEORGE K. ARTHUR SCHOLASTIC TOURNAMENT RESULTS 2010

The Schiller Park Chess Club in conjunction with The Archangel 8 Chess Academy hosted its first of many chess tournaments. The tournament was hosted in the George K Arthur Community Center, 2056 Genesee Street in Buffalo, NY. The tournament was named after George K. Arthur who is long standing community activist in the neighborhood and is a long standing supporter of The Archangel 8 Chess Academy. The goal is to make the game of chess accessible to those in the Schiller Park community and those of the afterschool program where they have limited resources for travel. We plan to have other tournaments over holidays when schools are closed.

There were twelve players including two females. The new female chess players were Laura Cohn, 2nd grader at Lindbergh Elementary, Kenmore, New York and Lafranee Daniel, 5th grader at Trinity Catholic Academy and both are members of the Urban Queens Chess Club. Other schools represented were East High School with four players, Jonathan Boone and Ilon Crittenden are new members and returnees are James Hampton and Joshua Hampton. Olmstead #64 has now started an afterschool chess club had three fourth graders, Miles James, Urban Knight member, Oren Forgette and Nathaniel Spencer, Olmstead #97 was represented by 5th grader,Joshua Harbert(new Gloria J Parks Chess club member) and Miles Glenn from the Urban Knights Chess Club.

Lafranee Daniel, 5ht grader at Trinity Catholic Academy was awarded the TOP Female Trophy for her performance.

The results of the K - 6th Section are Champion - Matthew Schlaak, 2nd grader from the Chess Club of Buffalo, 2nd Place - Nathaniel Spencer,4th grader at Olmstead #64, 3rd Place - Laura Cohn, 2nd grader at Lindbergh Elmentary and 4th Place - Joshua Harbert, 5th grader at Olmstead #97.

The results of the K - 12th Section are NEW CHAMPION - Jonathan Boone, 11th grader at East High School, 2nd Place - James Hampton, 11th grader at East High, 3rd Place - Joshua Hampton, 11th grader at East High and 4th Place - Miles Glenn, 7th grader from the Urban Knights Chess Club.

NATIONAL CHESS MONTH BLITZ QUADS 2010

In honor of National Chess Month, The Archangel 8 Chess Academy will host a Quad Chess Tournament in the Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main Street, Buffalo, NY during the business lunch time 11:30am until 2pm on Friday, October 29, 2010.

This is a FREE Special event, USCF rules enforced! Come out and play blitz games to promote the game of chess to the Buffalo business community. Blitz games are chess games under Game 29. Most know of games of 5 minutes.

Please register online in advance. We will random select players to a Quad, we will try to match players as best we can. Please report to the Upper Level of the Main Place Mall by 11:15am. After Quad winners then we will attempt to have a play off for a National Chess Month Blitz Champion!

SCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNAMENT

Hosted by Schiller Park Chess Club in conjunction with The Archangel 8 Chess Academy.

Saturday, October 30, 2010. George K Arthur Community Center, 2056 Genesee Street, Buffalo, NY 14211.

This tournament is open to all students in grades K - 12th. Two sections of play are K - 6th and 7th - 12th grades. USCF members and non members will play in both Unrated and Rated sections.

Advance entry fee is $10 if registered online by midnight, friday, Oct 29th with full name, age, grade, school, USCF Id number and telephone number. Or $15 Cash only at the door.

All players must report and be paid by 11:30am. Games will start at Noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Five games, Swiss, Game 30, USCF rules are enforced!

Please bring chess set, chess board and chess clock. Limited chess sets and chess boards.

LOCKPORT KNIGHTS CHESS CLUB OPENS!

In celebration of National Chess Month, we now have an official USCF Chess Club in the Lockport Community. Details and logistics are still being worked out for hosting USCF tournaments. Pictured are the founding members of the newly established USCF affiliate, Lockport Knights Chess Club. The members welcome the chess community to join them every thurdsday nights from 6:45pm unitl 8:30pm at the Lockport Youth Recreational Center, located at Willow and Transit.

The Lockport Knights Open house will start on thursday, October 21, 2010 at 7pm until 8:30pm. A six week Chess league will start, Game 25, Quad format for the inital three games with playoffs to be completed by December 2, 2010.

Ten algebraic chess boards and chess sets are available for the chess club members. The club was the joint effort of Lucy Pencille, The Lockport Youth Recreation and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy. Over 15 registrations were collected in advance for this organization at the Charles Upson Elementary School.

The Chess club will be available to chess players of all ages and all levels. Females and minorities are strongly encouraged to join.

The club is in need of digital chess clocks, 2 Demo boards and chess tactic books. Chess instructions and lessons will be provided by The Archangel 8 Chess Academy under the direction of Michael A. Mc Duffie, US Chess Federation Certified Chess Coach and Tournament Director.

Twenty three total players turned out to help promote and celebrate National Chess Month. So designated by former President Gerald Ford in 1976. New referrrals were Yogesh Bedeker, Ricardo G. Ortiz, Justin Craddock and Matthew Ramey. Returning canadian student vistor, Vinay Sharma added an international spirit to the event.

Pictured with USCF Tournament Director, Michael A. Mc Duffie are the Co-Champions of the Grand Prix section were National Masters, Barry Davis and Lionel L. Davis. U1900 Class prizes winners were Harish Srinivasan and David Gluchowski. Upset leaders were David Gluchowski with 215 points and National Master Barry Davis with 87 points.

The U1500 section Champion was James P. Davis, Esq. and a three way tie for second place were Robert P. Simpson, Esq., William Rich and James J. Paul, MD.

The Hampton twins took top honors of First and Second Place in the NCM Scholastic Section.

Special recognition and Kudos to Samuel E. Santora, a third grader from the Chess Club of Buffalo, a chess club for homeschool students, earned two points in his first outing in the U1500 section. Sam was quite the chess celebrity on friday at the Niagara University Purple Pawn chess tournament, playing against college players and a college professor, who signed up to have the chance to play against him. Sam did win a great majority of his time controlled games.

Special thanks to Mrs. Santora who took leadership in serving pizza and refreshments and took some candid photos for our chess archives.

Our next Special Event promoting National Chess Month will be a Dual Simul Chess Exhibition featuring International Master Kenneth W. Regan, Ph.D and National Master Barry Davis, on Sunday, October 17th at the Borders on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga starting at 2pm. The chess community members who wish to participate are asked to report and be seated no later than 1:30pm with chess set and chess board. James P. Davis will be collecting the players scoresheets from the event for his book, titled "Simply Chess in Buffalo".

PURPLE PAWNS BLITZ QUAD TOURNAMENT

In celebration of National Chess Month, Niagara University Office of Multicultural & International Student Affairs(MISA) in conjunction with The Archangel 8 Chess Academy will host a three round thriller quad chess tournament in the Gallagher Center on Friday, October 15th from Noon until 2pm.

Chess players will be placed random in a Quad, Game 25, USCF rules enforced! This tournament is to help establish and promote a Chess Club on campus. The tournament has been promoted to the local chess community, faculty, staff and stduents of Niagara University.

Saturday, October 16, 2010 in the Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main Street, Buffalo, NY. Free Parking under the Mall, Food Court Open during tournament play.

This is a US Chess Federation Open rated tournament. Four rounds, Swiss, Game 60 50. All players are required to bring chess set, chess board and chess clock. US Chess Federation membership required! All tournament players are required to be paid and checked in no later than 9:30am. Games start at 9:45am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm.

PIZZA AND REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED FOR ALL PAID TOURNAMENT PLAYERS!

Patterson wins in Sardinia

Albert (Pat) Patterson defeated Ryan Madden, Ryan Palmisano, and Nathan Palmisano to win the Sardinia Tournament last Saturday. Congrats to Pat for his fine play.

In the scholastic section Ryan Palmisano won with 7.5pts. Sam santora scored 7 to finish 2nd, while Nathan Palmisano got 6 for 3rd place.

Also competing were Zach Madden, James Lyon, Nate and Nick Schiener, Nick Brennan, Max Peters, Lucas Grisanti, and newcomer Anderson Miles. Next tournament Nov. 6.
