CHESS OPEN HOUSE - SUN FEB 23RD

The February Chess Open House is hosted by The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an official US Chess Federation affiliate. The Archangel 8 Chess Academy is celebrating over 15 years of providing Enrichment Youth Chess programs in WNY.

You are invited to join us for FEBRUARY CHESS OPEN HOUSE at the Buffalo Public "Central" Library on Sunday, Feb 23rd located at Lafayette in downtown Buffalo NY.

The doors open at Noon and the first games will start at 12:15pm until 4:30pm located in the Fables Café on the first floor. Limited supply of chess sets and boards available, players should bring their own chess equipment if they have.

All chess players will play three to four games in a tournament friendly format. All games will be one hour and 20 minutes in duration with a digital chess clock set for Game 40 with a 5 second delay.

USCF CHESS " LOVERS DAY" TOURNAMENT - FEB 22, 2014

Hosted by THE ARCHANGEL 8 CHESS ACADEMY, celebrating over 15 years of Enrichment Youth Chess programs in WNY! Buffalo and WNY diversified, friendly and competitive USCF Sanctioned Chess Tournaments. This tournament will assist those preparing for the NYS Scholastic High School Chess Championships and the upcoming Marchand Open.

You are invited to join us on Saturday, February 22, 2014 held at the Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main St, Buffalo New York. There is FREE parking under the Mall, please do not keep any valuables in the vehicle. The Tournament format will feature four, Game 50 with a 5 second delay - USCF sanctioned, dual rated games. USCF members must bring chess set, algebraic chess board and digital chess clock.

PIZZA and REFRESHMENTS provided to paid tournament players!

OPEN AND U1600 CASH PRIZES based on 36 players! USCF MEMBERSHIPS are required! Unpaid late arrivals must take a one half point Bye! One BYE available with request to the tournament director at the door.

SECTIONS OF PLAY! USCF Open and U1600, Advance registrations and Entry Fee must be received by midnight on Thursday, Feb 20th with reply to KNIGHTSOF64@yahoo.com with full name, USCF number, Section and Telephone.

ADVANCE OPEN ENTRY FEE - $25.00 OR $35.00 Cash at the door, AFTER Feb 20th. Advance U1600 Entry Fee - $15 or $20.00 Cash at the door.

NEW CASH PAYOUT - OPEN CASH PRIZES based on 18 paid players - First Place - $200, 2nd Place - $100, 3rd Place - $60, TOP U1900 - $75.

NEW CASH PAYOUT - U1600 CASH PRIZES based on 18 players - First Place - $130, 2nd Place - $60, 3rd Place - $30.

OPEN and U1600 Game Schedule - All players are to report by 9am. Games will start at 9:15am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm.

SCHOLASTIC PAWNMASTER STARS (K - 9) SECTION - Students in grades K - 9th. Unrated section, Four games of play, Game 30 with a 5 second delay, students may be required to keep algebraic notations! PIZZA and REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED! Students may bring a snack.

Chess equipment provided! TROPHIES and TOP FEMALE AWARDED based on entries.

Advance Entry Fee is $10 by Feb 20th, after $15 CASH at the door. No Checks accepted!

All Scholastic players must report by 9:30am, Games will start at 10am, 11am, Noon and 1pm.

Trophy Ceremony immediately after the last games. Group and individual photos will be taken.

FEB 8TH RESULTS - GOLDEN KNIGHTS SCHOLASTIC K-9 TOURNAMENT

In our first chess event for The 2014 Golden Knights of Lockport, the beginners chess tournament held at the Lockport Family YMCA attracted a total of 18 players and picked up 5 new players outside the Lockport area!

The results of the K to 4th grade Section were Co-Champions - JonLuke Pencille and Tyler Halifax both from Lockport, 2nd PLACE - Siddharth Suresh from the Stars of India Chess Club, and 3rd PLACE - Peter Mc Gowan from the Old First Ward Irish Buffalo Chess Club. PawnMaster Mc Duffie Medal winner was Andrew O'Dell and Benjamin Travis, TOP FEMALE AWARD - Mariah Moulds.

Winners of the 5th to 9th Grade Section were UNDEFEATED Danielle Spencer, her first Championship Trophy, 2nd PLACE - Andrew Pencille. 3rd PLACE - Maya Moulds and PawnMaster Mc Duffie Medal Winner - Dayonna Tester.

Special thanks for the Lockport Family YMCA for allowing us to have access to their facility, Mrs Lucy Pencille for all her dedicated work and Mr Vincent and Corey Spencer for their assistance during the tournament. AMHERST BRANCH LIBRARY WINTERFEST CHESS LEAGUE - STARTS FEB 13TH!



The Buffalo Public Library and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy will host a three week Scholastic Youth Chess League!

THIS IS A FREE CHESS EVENT WITH YOUR LIBRARY CARD! COME OUT AND SUPPORT THE LIBRARY! COME AND SIGN UP FOR A LIBRARY CARD TODAY! PLACE: AUDUBON BRANCH LIBRARY COMMUNITY ROOM, 350 JOHN JAMES PARKWAY, AMHERST NY! FREE OPEN OFF STREET PARKING AVAILABLE!

Eligible students in grades K-9 will meet on Thursday nights starting at 5:45pm on Feb 13th, Feb 20th and Feb 27th, 2014! Each week students will meet and play two games of friendly chess matches in a Swiss or Quad format. All games will be Game 30 with a 5 second delay. The Winners will be awarded trophies on Feb 27th.

Chess players are encouraged to bring their own chess equipment, chess set, chess board and digital chess clock. Please wear your school uniform shirt or T shirt with your school colours!

All games are scheduled to start at 6pm and all games must be finished by 8pm. US Chess Federation rules will be enforced! Photos will be taken during tournament play of the group and/or individuals!

GOLDEN KNIGHTS OF LOCKPORT SCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNAMENT - FEB 8TH


Pictured are the Golden Knights of Lockport, a NEW SCHOLASTIC K-9 National USCF Chess program! They have been meeting every Monday nights at the Charles Upson Elementary School from 6pm to 8pm for group chess lessons and group chess play. The program is directed by Mrs Lucy Pencille and Michael A. Mc Duffie, USCF Chess Coach, USCF Tournament Director and Boy Scouts of America, Chess Merit Badge Counselor.

Please come and join The Golden Knights of Lockport on Saturday, Feb 8th at the Lockport YMCA, located at 19 Main Street, Lockport NY. The tournament is hosted by The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an Unrated Scholastic K-9 Chess Tournament for Beginners!

All Scholastic players are to report by 2pm on the second floor. All games will start at 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4:30pm and 5:3pm. Entry fee is $15.00 per student. Cash only accepted at the door.

Chess players are encouraged to bring their own chess set, algebraic chess board and digital chess clock, if they have chess equipment. Limited Chess equipment will be provided for all chess players!

Trophies will be awarded by The Archangel 8 Chess Academy once all games are completed. Individual and group photos will be taken and submitted to the Lockport Sun and Journal our Media Sponsor!
