INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP CUP 2015 featuring International Master Kenneth W. Regan, Ph.D. January 17, 2015



A Winter Chess Festival and a World Chess Federation (FIDE) a special international Chess event to help promote and establish friendships with Canadian chess players along with an exchange of cultural cross skills.

The first annual International Friendship Cup Chess tournament is hosted by The Buffalo Teachers Federation, Inc. and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an official affilate of the United States Chess Federation, celebrating over 16 years of Enrichment Youth Chess programs in the Buffalo - Niagara Falls and WNY area.

DATES: January 17, 2015 and January 18, 2015

WHERE: Old First Ward Community Center, 62 Republic, Buffalo, New York

WHAT: There will be a Two Days, FIDE game schedule, featuring Buffalo native and International Master Kenneth W. Regan, Ph.D. to be held on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18, 2015! World Chess Federation rules enforced!
Two Days, 5 FIDE and USCF dual Rated games, Game 120 with a 5 second delay, One BYE available with advance notice.

Two Day FIDE Game Schedule - Players must report no later than 9:30am. Games will start on Saturday 17th at 10am, 2:30pm and 7pm. Games on Sunday 18, 2015 will start at 9:30am and Finals at 2:30pm.

FIDE CASH PRIZES - Based on 32 paid players or else in proportion. The FIDE OPEN Champion will receive the 2015 Friendship Cup and $600.00, 2nd Place - $360.00, 3rd Place - $240.00 and 4th Place - $100.00. CLASS PRIZE - U1900 $220.00.

NATIONAL CHESS MONTH CELEBRATION - SPOTLIGHTS OCTOBER 2014


The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an official affiliate of the United States Chess Federation, is presenting the 2014 National Chess Month Chess Tournament on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 11:30am until 4:30pm for all chess players. This event will take place at the Downtown Central Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, 1 Lafayette Square, downtown Buffalo.

Participation in the tournament is FREE and females and school-age players of all abilities at Chess are encouraged to compete. Competitors will compete in four games, with USCF rules enforced, against others at their grade levels, in sections grades K-3, 4-8, 9-12 and Adult. Trophies provided by the Buffalo Teachers Federation, Inc. will be awarded in the Scholastic sections.

Chess players interested in competing should pre-register by midnight on October 3rd at KNIGHTSOF64@YAHOO.COM, indicating full name, contact phone number, school and grade.

The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library and Archangel 8 Chess Academy have collaborated for the past four years to bring free Chess activites into libraries. Chess Open Houses are held at the downtown Library on the last Sunday of each month from Noon until 4:30pm. and are open to all interested players and learners. Archangel 8 Chess Academy also hosts weekly Chess activities at the Urban Queens and Knights Chess Club, Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Branch Library, 1324 Jefferson Avenue; at Main Place Mall; Monday nights at the Lockport Family YMCA; on Fridays at the Old First Ward Community Center; an on selected dates in other locations in Buffalo, West Seneca and Niagara Falls.

2014 PAWNMASTER MEMORIAL U.S.C.F. TOURNAMENT - SAT SEPT 20, 2014


The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, The Buffalo Teachers Federation, Inc. and The Mc Duffie Family will host the 2014 David W. Mc Duffie PawnMaster Memorial U.S.C.F. Chess Tournament at the Main Place Mall, 390 Main Street, Upper Level, Buffalo NY on Saturday, September 20, 2014. FREE Parking under the Mall, access by the Pearl Street entrance.

David W. Mc Duffie, born and raised in Buffalo, graduate of Hutchinson Technical High School and Fredonia State College, an active USCF Fells Point Chess club player, Maryland State Chess Champion, Baltimore Scholastic Chess Coach and a board member of the Maryland Chess Association. David aka "PawnMaster" died in Baltimore Maryland on Friday, August 24, 2012.

This chess event is a USCF sanctioned, Four games, Game 50, with a 5 second delay, No elimination tournament, players in the Open Section and U1600 section must be a USCF member. Scholastic K-12 Memorial Section is a non rated but USCF rules are enforced and players can be asked to play with a digital chess clock and write algebraic chess notations to prepare them for State and National Championships. ALL CHESS PLAYERS MUST BRING THEIR CHESS SET, BOARD AND DIGITAL CHESS CLOCK!

SECTIONS - OPEN, U1600 AND SCHOLASTIC K-12. PIZZA and REFRESHMENTS provided for all paid tournament players!

ENTRY FEES - OPEN section $25 advance or $35 Cash at the door. U1600 $15 or $25 Cash at the door. SCHOLASTIC - $10 or $15 Cash at the door.

Tournament Schedules - OPEN and U1600 players must report no later than 9am. Games will start at 9:15am. Round 2 starts at 11:30am, Round 3 starts at 1:15pm and Round 3 starts at 3pm. All games must be completed by 5:30pm.

SCHOLASTIC SCHEDULE - All scholastic players must report no later than 9:30am, Games start at 10am, 11am, Noon and 1pm. PIZZA and refreshments will be served around Noon. Chess sets, boards and digital chess clocks are provided for the Scholastic section but it is recommended that the student bring their own chess equipment if they have these items. Trophies are donated by the Buffalo Teachers Federation, Inc. Trophies are awarded after all the games are completed. Parents can provide snacks and beverages for their child during tournament play. Trophies awarded are Champion, Top Female, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and 4th Place.

CASH PRIZES - OPEN SECTION based on 18 players - CHAMPION PLAQUE and $200 Cash, 2nd Place $100, 3rd Place $60, Top U1900 $75. U1600 Section based on 18 players - Champion Plaque and $130, 2nd Place $60 and 3rd Place $30. Trophies and Plaques are donated by the Buffalo Teachers Federation, Inc.

Group, Individual and casual photos are taken of all tournament players during this event.

The 2014 PAWNMASTER MEMORIAL CHESS TOURNAMENT WILL BE POSTPONED UNTIL SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2014! PLEASE LET OTHER CHESS PLAYERS AND PARENTS ASAP!

While returning my son back to military college, we were notified that his aunt had suddenly died from internal bleeding. This is the third year during the month of August that we have lost a family member. Her funeral services will be out of town and details are few at this time but the family is searching for a minister and church for her services later on this week or the weekend.

Traveling back to Buffalo this afternoon, but I have to postpone the tournament until September 2014. I apologize for any problems that this might have on others.

Those 6 advance registrations will be applied to the September tournament.

The Buffalo Teachers Federation and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy will host a US Chess Federation,Four games, Game 50 with 5 second delay, sanctioned tournament at the Main Place Mall, Upper level, 390 Main Street, Buffalo NY on Sat July 19, 2014.

The Buffalo Chess community is invited to join in tournament play and share stories about Charles L. Davis, Esq. He always played in the U1600 section when he was able to participate. This month the CHAMPIONS of each section will receive the 2014 Charles L. Davis, Esq. Memorial plaque or trophies for the scholastic K-9 section in his name. Charles L. Davis, Esq. died on July 16, 2013 in Buffalo NY.

PIZZA and Refreshments will be provided for all paid tournament players! OPEN and U1600 Players are asked to report by 9am. USCF dual rated games will start at 9:15am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm. USCF current Membership is required!

Scholastic K-9 players, will play four non rated games with digital clock and notations, report by 9:30am and non rated games will start at 10am, 11am, Noon and 1pm. Trophies and Top Female Awards to follow after the tournament.

FORMAT - Each USCF chess player in the OPEN and U1600 will play Four, USCF sanctioned dual rated games, Game 50 with a five second delay. SCHOLASTIC "WORLD CUP" (K - 9) STARS(Non rated) will play four games, USCF rules enforced, Game 30 with a five second delay.
