"FREE" CHRISTMAS SCHOLASTIC K-12 TEAM TOURNAMENT - FRIDAY DECEMBER 27, 2013


MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014!

The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, celebrating over 14 years of enrichment youth chess programs is hosting a "FREE" Christmas Scholastic K-12 Team Chess Tournament! The Archangel 8 Chess Academy is an affiliate of the US Chess Federation and a "Community Partner" of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.

The Christmas Scholastic K-12 Team Chess Tournament will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Audubon Branch Library, 350 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst New York in the Community room. All scholastic players must report by 11:30am, Games will start at Noon, 1pm and 2pm.Teams of three players or less from the same school/club. All players are asked to register online to KNIGHTSOF64@YAHOO.COM by midnight on Thursday, December 26 with team name, team roster, school/club and telephone. If Chess players have chess equipment, they are asked to bring an algebraic chess board, set and digital chess clock. Limited Chess equipment available.

SAVE THE DATE! MONDAY, DECEMBER 30th, CHARLES UPSON ELEMENTARY BEGINNERS SCHOLASTIC (K-5) CHESS TOURNAMENT, 28 Harding Avenue, Lockport, NY. Players must report by 8:45am, Games start at 9:15am, 10:15am, 11:15am and 12:15pm. Trophies, Medals and Applebees of Lockport prizes will be awarded! Online registrations are being accepted by midnight, December 29 with reply to KNIGHTSOF64@yahoo.com. Entry fee (Cash only) of $10 will be accepted only at the door.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy Holidays to all of our Armed Forces and their families while serving our country! The Archangel 8 Chess Academy would like to invite you to join us to make awareness of organ donation and The Kidney Foundation this month. In the spirit of giving we ask that you consider making a contribution to the Kidney Foundation and organ donation! The Buffalo Association of Black Social Workers, Inc., will again assist with serving Pizza and refreshments to the chess players.

As a reminder, The 2013 Kidney Foundation Holiday Classic, will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013, Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main St, Buffalo NY. FREE PARKING under Mall, Please lock your valuables! Food Court, Boutiques and Shoppes are open during and before tournament play.

The NEW Format will feature, $615.00 based on 34 players! Four USCF dual rated games, duration will be Game 50 with a 5 second delay for the Open and NEW SECTION - U1600 Sections of play. Scholastic K-12 grades will play four unrated games, duration will be Game 30 with a 5 second delay.

Advance Online Registration and Entry Fees; Open will be $25 or $35 U1600 will be $15.00 or $20, SCHOLASTICs will be $10 or $15, CASH accepted at the door. Registration with full name, USCF number, section and telephone to Knightsof64@yahoo.com by Thursday, December 19, 2013.

GAME SCHEDULES: All Open and U1600 players must report by 9am, Games will start at 9:15am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm. Late Unpaid arrivals must take a one half point non playing Bye. Byes are available upon request at the door. SCHOLASTICS Game Schedule: All Scholastics must report by 9:30am, Games will start at 10am, 11am, Noon and 1pm. Trophies, Medals & Top Female Awards immediately following with individual and group photos.

CASH PRIZES for OPEN and U1600 will be $200 and $100, U1900 Class Prize $75 based on 18 paid players. New Section U1600 Cash Prizes based on 16 players will be $150 - $60 - $30.

CHARLES UPSON BEGINNERS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013


Hosted by The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an affiliate of the US Chess Federation, Celebrating over 14 years of Enrichment and Afterschool Scholastic Chess programs in WNY.

Come out and join us during the Christmas holiday and winter break to establish a USCF National Chess Team and Elementary Chess Club at the Charles A. Upson Elementary School. PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO STAY AND ASSIST with the tournament. Students are urged to bring a brown bag lunch, beverage and snacks.

FORMAT: OPEN TO All 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade chess players. Must know Check and Checkmate, all will play four games, No elimination, each game will be allotted (Game 30 with 5 second delay)one hour in duration and USCF rules enforced. Sections maybe combined depending on the entries! TROPHIES, MEDALS AND APPLEBEES OF LOCKPORT PRIZES will be awarded.
