Marijan's Move in "All of WNY is out to get Marijan!"

VS
It has been 11 months of our experiment in which we were playing two simultaneous correspondence games, one as white one as black, against the right good Reverend Marijan Procyk. Our moves have been the most popular choice of our readership. Each reader can nominate moves and can use any outside assistance to derive the move-except for the use of a computer engine. Meanwhile Marijan is not allowed to look at the comments. Rather he will email his moves, after I update these boards. Marijan has won the game in which we had tried a King's Indian Defense against a 4 pawn's attack. It's Marijan's move in the remaining Caro Kann variation game. As white we have gone 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nd7 5. Bc4 Ngf6 6. Ng5 e6 7. Qe2 Nb6 8.Bb3 h6 9. N5f3 c5 10. dxc5 Nbd7 11.Be3 Nxc5 12. Bxc5 Qa5+ 13.Nd2 Bxc5 14. 0-0-0 0-0 15.Ngf3 Qc7 16. AQE NOVEMBER BUFFALO GRAND PRIX RESULTS

36 chess players came out to the tournament this past Saturday. One special guest was Felix Yuanfei Ling from Guangdong, China. He is a 6 year old, who not only plays chess well, but writes neat algebraic chess notations. While visiting the Grand Prix, Felix had the opportunity to play the following players for experience: Lorena James (3rd grader), Samantha Rodriguez(100), (1st grader), Corey Washington (7th grader), Julius Spencer (5th grader), Kingman Bassett (4th grader) and Malik Ferguson(543) (4th grade). His only loss was to Malik by means of a scholar's mate! A mating pattern, I doubt, he will ever lose to again. Felix will be rewarded with a special trophy as November's "Best Unrated Player" from the Archangel 8 Chess Academy. In the Senator Antoine M Thompson Section (1st graders - 4th) 1st Place winner - Frankie A Rodriguez,(566) Home Schooled with an undefeated 4-0 2nd Place - Doshlynn M Romer (218) 3rd Place - Daja Vu D. Pattern Recognition

Harish had asked that I post this online game of mine. The background story is that at a prior Wegmans Wednesday he had defeated me with a similar "trap" in which he gave up his bishop in order to open up the rook file in front of my castled king. His queen came out to that file and checkmate was unavoidable. To show you that it is not just young Felix who quickly can remember patterns in chess, I offer you this game. Note that after 12...Qh5 the game is over. White has no way of stopping checkmate, he kindly allowed the checkmate, however, and then swore at me in some Slavic language.

BRAINS AND BRAWN

Melvin Fowler v. Jim Brown
Bills center Melvin Fowler #67 is widely regarded as the best chess player on Buffalo's roster. And while most of his teammates don't devote the same amount of time to the game as he does, they might be a bit more respectful of his talents on the board if they knew the name of his top playing partner.
Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown is Fowler's most ardent adversary when it comes to the game of chess. The two met during Fowler's second year with the Cleveland Browns where Brown was still a consultant to the club.
"That's how we got to start playing each other," said Fowler. "Our friendship kind of developed around the board.
You can read the whole article here: http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5397
Best wishes to Mr. Fowler over the board and on the gridiron. LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!
