Newcomer Nathan Braasch, an 8th grader from Derby NY, started his chess career with a bang this past Saturday by sweeping all eight games in the scholastic section of the Sardinia tournament. Although getting a scare from NYS 1st grade champ Felix Ling, Nathan survived and also defeated Thomas Hahn, Austin Kossow, and Ryan Madden in very competitive games. Other students playing were Ryan and Nathan Palmisano, Jacob Bennett, and Robert Becker. The crosstable is at http://main.uschess.org/assets/msa_joomla/XtblMain.php?200802025331
The Open section was won by Pat Patterson, who won for the second month in a row. Other players included Carl Kossow, Dr. Mark Mieth, Ryan Madden, and Nathan Braasch.
