NATIONAL CHESS MONTH CELEBRATION - SPOTLIGHTS OCTOBER 2014


The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an official affiliate of the United States Chess Federation, is presenting the 2014 National Chess Month Chess Tournament on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 11:30am until 4:30pm for all chess players. This event will take place at the Downtown Central Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, 1 Lafayette Square, downtown Buffalo.

Participation in the tournament is FREE and females and school-age players of all abilities at Chess are encouraged to compete. Competitors will compete in four games, with USCF rules enforced, against others at their grade levels, in sections grades K-3, 4-8, 9-12 and Adult. Trophies provided by the Buffalo Teachers Federation, Inc. will be awarded in the Scholastic sections.

Chess players interested in competing should pre-register by midnight on October 3rd at KNIGHTSOF64@YAHOO.COM, indicating full name, contact phone number, school and grade.

The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library and Archangel 8 Chess Academy have collaborated for the past four years to bring free Chess activites into libraries. Chess Open Houses are held at the downtown Library on the last Sunday of each month from Noon until 4:30pm. and are open to all interested players and learners. Archangel 8 Chess Academy also hosts weekly Chess activities at the Urban Queens and Knights Chess Club, Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Branch Library, 1324 Jefferson Avenue; at Main Place Mall; Monday nights at the Lockport Family YMCA; on Fridays at the Old First Ward Community Center; an on selected dates in other locations in Buffalo, West Seneca and Niagara Falls.
