Five players from Buffalo-Niagara competed in this year's New York State Chess Championships this past weekend in Albany, NY. Notable results were William Rich's (1233) "money" finish in the U1400 subsection of the U1600 Section scoring a 4/6 and raising his rating 150 points! Also Rev. Marijan Procyk's (2100) scored a first round draw with International Master Jay Bonin (2459). The other area players who made the trip and participated in America's oldest running chess tournament were Partho Bhattacharya (1046), Mark Mieth(1375), and David Miller(1590).

Winning the Open section was the young IMs Alex Lenderman (2501) and Justin Sarkar both with 5.5/6 having drawn with each other in round 4. The U1600 section was won by the very young Daniel Johnston (1599 >>>1678) of Rochester who has played in a few Buffalo-Niagara events.
