KLCC SEPTEMBER GRAND PRIX RESULTS 2008

Thirty Nine players returned to the "Every third Saturday Grand Prix" tournament. The next Grand Prix tournament will be Saturday, October 18th, 2008 at the Main Place Mall - Upper Level, Buffalo NY.

The Hal Payne Scholastic Exhibition Section produced its first female Champion from a field of eleven players. First place and Undefeated 6-0: Dakaylah, Fifth Grader at Martin Luther King Jr. #39, daughter of Ken Winfield both USCF rated players. Cousin Daja Vu, placed 6th were the only two 5th grader females in the section.

Second place tie Brandon C Small and Acour Dour, both 7th graders at St. Augustines Scholars Chess program, Third place tie Agoth Henry(7th), Julius Spencer(6th) and Majok Henry(6th) all from St Augustines Scholars Chess program.

Other schools represented were Andrell Clemons - Performing Arts Academy, Shakyle Topps - Urban Knights Chess and Buffalo United Charter.

St. Augustine Scholars Chess Program now under a new Chess Coach Michael A. Mc Duffie, USCF Chess Coach is now undergoing a new and challenging direction every friday at St Augustine School with (12) male players. We are also investigating to develop the girls program and we are awaiting for a positive response.

Senator Antoine M Thompson U1600 Section: Eighteen (18) players attended. New comers were Wallie Green, Crystal Taylor and Jack Oleksyn (Rochester Chess Club).

First Place Champion and Undefeated for a second consecutive monthly winner, Attorney James P. Davis. James P Davis in the final round defeated newly crown NY State U1400 Champion William M Rich also U1400 Mayors Cup Champion 2008. 2nd Place Jack Oleksyn (highest rated player in section), and 3rd place tie Josh Rofrano(Rochester Chess Club), Ferdinand Supsup (Canada) and David Biddle.

Upset point leaders were:Vic Bahl (576), George Barton (248), William Rich(192), Josh Rofrano(126.5), Partho Bhattacharya(77.5), Benjamin Havey(70), Erik Lubas (54) and Thomas Callea Jr (34.5points).

In the Open International Grand Prix section turned out ten (10) players, another new high for this section. USCF Ratings ranged from 1606 to 2244.

Returning and undefeated Champion Lionel L. Davis, 2nd Place Aquino Inigo, 13yrs old., from (Welland Ontario, Canada) and 3rd Place Vance Williams.

  2. Just noticed the cross table results. There is an error. I have emailed you with regard to same. For eg, I never played Evan Ashton and my first round was with Tony Kimbrough. My loss with Evan Ashton is incorrect, instead it should be second round loss to Vance Williams.

  4. I am definitely playing in the Oct. 18 event. I wish I could play in all of them, but---this summer I worked more literally like a grad student than in a long time! I wrote 8,500 lines---nearly 150 dense single-spaced pages---of C++ code!! Harish from my dept. knows what I mean...
