Nakamura wins Major tournament!

  3. Congrats to Nakamura. I think since Fischer this is the next big super GM tournament win for an American. I hope this win will encourage super GM tournament organization in the u.s. thereby bringing international GMs to the U.S.

  4. To be accurate, GM Gata Kamsky did win the Grand Prix Knock-out Tournament a few years back. This victory placed him as the recognized challenger for the World Championship Match, that is until FIDE, as is often the case, changed the rules for the World Championship pathway.

  5. Yes indeed Kamsky won the FIDE world cup. But that knockout did not have all of the top players. Mark's note is also reflected in the ny times blog along with Kasparov's statement on Nakamura's win this link .
