The 5th Annual Mayor's Cup Chess Championship Day one is now in the books. Fourteen players are participating in the FIDE open rated section for the Mayor's Cup Trophy. Visiting players from Nevada and Illinois have come to join in the summer festival kickoff.
Day on results have defending 2008 and 2010 Mayor's Cup Champion, International Master Kenneth W Regan, tied for the lead with International Master Mladen Vucic with two points each. Visitor Samuel Copeland is tied for third with 1.5 points with Kevin Gafni from Nevada.
Half the field has strong USCF ratings over 2000. I wanna thank all those that came out and supported the 5th Annual Championships. Last minute registrations didnt permit us to disclose those participating.
Day Two will be packed with the Jeff White U1500 Memorial, Game 90 section will start at 10am, 2:30pm and 6pm. The FIDE schedule will start at 9am, 1:30pm and 6pm.
The Mayors Cup Scholastic Team Championships will start at Noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm with awards and trophies provided by The Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Clinics and The Archangel 8 Chess Academy.
