2012 ARMED FORCES DAY MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Hosted by The Archangel 8 Chess Academy and Buffalo Fire Commissioner, Garnell W. Whitfield, Jr. Celebrating 12 years of Educational, Enrichment Youth Chess programs as an affiliate of the US Chess Federation, the governing body of Chess in the United States of America.

This CHAMPIONSHIP will be in memory of Army Private David Evans, Jr., graduate of the Buffalo School District and former intern in the Masten District Council Office during the term of Councilman Antoine M. Thompson, showed the value of community involment and the importance of following your dreams.

In June 2011, the David Evans, Jr. Courage Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the Frank Merriweather Jr. Library in Buffalo, NY awarded scholarships to the following students; Crystal Prince - Graduate of Hutchinson Technical, Bria Thompson - Graduate of South Park, Kelly Tian - Graduate of City Honors, Holly Granat - Graduate of Niagara Falls, Miranda Papp - Graduate of Tonawanda, Ashley Brown - Graduate of City Honors, Christopher Munn - Graduate of Maritime Charter and Tela Bridges - Graduate of Maritime Charter.

The Private David Evans, Jr. Championships will be held at the Main Place Mall, located at 390 Main St, Buffalo, NY, on Saturday, May 19, 2012. There is FREE parking under the Mall.

PIZZA and TROPHIES are SPONSORED by Old First Ward Community Center, Simpson & Simpson, PLLC and Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Clinics.

There will be four Championship sections, URBAN QUEENS - ALL Girls Only, OPEN, U1500 and USCF Scholastic K-12.

Advance entries fee will be $15 for all players, online registrations must be received by midnight on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 with full name, USCF number, Section and Telephone, please mail and make checks payable to Archangel 8 Chess Academy, 60F Guilford Lane, Buffalo, NY 14221.

Registrations after May 16th will be $25 CASH at the door. Online registrations can be sent to arcangel8chess@yahoo.com by midnight, friday, May 18, 2012 with full name, section, USCF number and telephone.

Scholastic Game Schedules; Urban Queens Championship, USCF Scholastic - K-12 will play five games, No elimination, Game 30 with 5 second delay. All players must report by 9am, Games will start at 9:45am, 10:45am, 11:45am, 12:45pm and 1:45pm. Photos and Awards to follow immediately! Chess Medals for all Scholastic players!

USCF Dual Rated, OPEN and U1500 Game Schedules; All players must report by 9:30am, 4 games, Swiss, Game 50 with 5 second delay, no elimination. Games to start at 9:45am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm.

Cash Prizes: OPEN - $100 - $75 and $40, U1500 - $75 - $50 and $35.

SAVE THE DATE; 6th Annual Buffalo International Chess Championships featuring the 2012 Mayors Cup FIDE section. A two day, Five Games, Game 120 with 5 second delay, FIDE and USCF Open Rated Championships. The 2012 Summer Chess Festival Event, June 2nd and June 3, 2012, we have a NEW Venue - The Old First Ward Community Center, 62 Republic Street, Buffalo, NY. Please check your April Chess Life Magazine for game schedules, cash prizes and payment deadlines by May 19, 2012. Grandmasters, International Grandmasters and FIDE Masters have a "Free Entry", Canadians and foreign rated players in FIDE section received a $10 discount. All the other sections U1900, U1500 and Scholastics will be five games on Saturday only!
