  1. I recently played in the New York State Open. I tried to promote this tourny but when I informed them that U1900 and U1500 had to play 5 games in 1 day. No one was was interested. The ny state open was 5 games in 3 or 2 days. If you can have other sections play 5 games in 2 days then why can't you have a 2 day schedule for the lower rated players. I guess we are not as important as the STARS. Without us 'lesser lights' the USCF would not survive. We need more respect. My money is as good as a Grandmasters money

    1. I do agree with you but there are family time issues here in WNY which is valued and I have to respect the local players wishes. I also added a new section U1900 because players like yourself feel they have a chance to make a name for themselves if they dont have Over 2000 rated players breathing down their necks. That was a request from the 2011 Mayors Cup Championships. As more out of town players participate then maybe the attraction will change. I am working on an email from the US Chess Federation to help notify close to 3200 players about this event. This email should happen anytime soon, all Im waiting for is approval. I do thank you for your comments and I will keep those ideas for the 7th Annual Buffalo International Chess Championships featuring the Mayor's Cup.
Thanks for your continued help and support.

  2. Thanks for your feedback. I shall pass it on to the tournament director. The open section is FIDE rated and according to rules, you cannot have more than 3 games in a day. But the other section are USCF rated and is not bound by the rule. Also there seems to be some group of people who prefer the one day format similar to the monthly tournament.

  3. I have read the post several times and I can't find the entrance fee for U1900 and U1500

  4. Also I can't find the tournament in CHESS LIFE or on the USCF website.

  5. Sections of play for scholastic are listed differently in Chess Life than in this advertisement. Chess Life says K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Announcement on the blog reads K-2, K-5, K-8, and K-12.

    1. Thanks for asking. This was allowed to give flexibility to those who have gifted and talented young students to play in the same section with the same team.
Thanks, we try to accomondate all who have an interest and encourage all those who would like to form a team as best they can. The Buffalo and WNY area is still underdevelopment which is why we are so flexible.

  8. I have been looking at several Grand Prix tournaments through out the country and have noticed that the late entry fee is $5 to $10 more than the early entry fee. If I am reading the Mayors Cup notice properly the late entry fee is a whopping $25 higher. Is this possible correct?

  9. Thanks for asking! We are hoping that the entries come in early. Request from out of town players want to know how many advance entries. We want to be able to provide this information which helps make the Grand Prix tournaments more attractive to all. Vendors want to know how much inventory to bring, usually based on advance registrations. So I would send in your payment and register, this will help the overall cause.
    Thanks,

  12. Correction: The eleventh paragraph of the announcement incorrectly cites "John White Memorial". It should read "Jeff White Memorial". I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Jeff, but the ChessDoctor tells me he was an early and much loved member of the Niagara Falls Chess Club. Thank you to everyone for keeping his memory alive by playing in the Mayor's Cup.
