Tactics from Grand Prix Nalchik

This position arose in the game Leko vs Gelfand from FIDE grand prix Nalchik played on Sunday 4/26/09. Gelfand has just played Nd7-e5. Can you find the variation (White to Move) that gives white the winning advantage. Leko played precisely and sealed the win. The first move may be obvious but I certainly did find the moves later in the variation hard to find while kibitzing the live game on ICC.

  2. It will come up a week before the next tournament. May be it should already be there as there will be the Sardinia, except I have not heard if there will be on this weekend.

  4. Thanks for putting up the banner and this puzzle.

That sure is a nice "unposted" white knight that probably will move to an even more threating square.

  5. Yes the knight will move to a even more threatening square. But may be not right away.

  7. If Alekhine had played that combination, it would be a historical classic. That Black can't do any damage with discovered checks in the ...Nxd3 line is remarkable.
