28 players from both sides of the border came out for the Buffalo KLCC March Grand Prix.
In the U1200 David Evans Jr Memorial Section, Ryan Madden (Pioneer Middle School) won with an undefeated 5-0! 2nd Place was Nicolas Frisch, and 3rd to Rasheen Powell, Jr of City Honors. New U1200 participants were the aforementioned Powell and Corey Washington, while two girls, Samantha Rodriguez and Shannon Smith also participated. Top Cumulative Upset Points winners were Nicolas Frisch (688) with 274 points, Samantha Rodriguez (100) with 105 points, and Rasheen Powell Jr (885) earned 31.5 points. Nicolas Frisch defeated Aaron Mc Duffie (948) in Round 2, Round 3 saw Samantha Rodriguez defeated Shannon Smith (310), Nicolas Frisch defeated Trevor Cohn (702) and in Round 4, Rasheen Powell Jr(885) tied Aaron Mc Duffie (948).
In the Mayor Byron W. Brown Section K-4th Graders winners were as follows: 1st Place - Ryan Palmisano, Pioneer Middle School, 2nd Place Tie - Trevor Cohn, Lindbergh School, Frank Rodriguez, Home Schooled and Nathan Palmisano, Pioneer Middle School and 3rd Place - Home Schooled Samantha Y. Rodriguez. In his first outing, Corey Washington earned first place in the Scholastics 4th - 8th Graders, Masten District Councilman, Demone Smith Section.
U1600 Senator Antoine M Thompson Section winners were: 1st Place Charles Kelly III (1565) and Josh Rofrano (1268) both new to the KLCC tournaments from Rochester NY. Tieing for 3rd Place were David Miller (1498), Robert Gerow (1396), James Paul (1350), James P. Davis(1268), John Johnson (1249), and Louis Williams (486). Top Cumulative Point Upset winner was Louis Williams with 1827 points. Other notable upset winners were Michael A. Mc Duffie(950) who picked up 173 points, James P Davis earning 157 points, and Josh Rofrano with 72 points. Round one saw Louis Williams defeating James Paul for 895 points, Michael A. Mc Duffie (950) beating Phillip Laugeman(1123) for 173 points, and James P Davis over David Biddle(1408) for 157 points. In Round Four, Louis Williams defeated David Biddle for 932 points, and Josh Rofrano drew Charles Kelly III for 72 points.
The International Open Section, fittingly produced a tie for first between NM Lionel L Davis (2216) of Buffalo and 7th grader, Aquino Inigo (1750p) from Welland, Ontario, Canada. 3rd Place and the U1900 prize winner was Thomas Warner(1720). The top Upset was in Round Three in which Aquino Inigo tied Lionel L Davis for 235 points. Although this really was not too surprising as Inigo's rating in Canada has been zoomin since October 2006 from 1700 to 2081 currently.
The next Grand Prix will be April 19th, 2008, Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main Street, Buffalo NY 14202. Same format, Same prizes and awards. Advance registration is greatly appreciated no later than Sunday, April 13, 2008.

Congratulations to Louis for a fine performance. He has been studying and it shows that hard work does pay off! And as always, great work to Mr. Chessambassador for organizing and directing these events. Thank you!
