is smaller than the one above, but Felix's rating is now bigger!
Corrected 3/17/08
Instead of merely defending his first grade title by playing in the K-1 section, Amherst first grader, FELIX (YUANFEI) LING, chose to play up in the very strong Primary section this weekend at the NYS Scholastic Championships. This section included players older than him and the top player, William Graiff, was rated 1668! The full cross table is available here: http://main.uschess.org/assets/msa_joomla/XtblMain.php?200803168751
He finished 3.5/6 earning him a tie for 16th place overall (19th on tiebreaks) in the state among Primary School players. His wins included over players rated 1180 and 1248 and he drew a 1388 Canadian player.
Facing such competition should prepare him well for the US Elementary Championships in Pittsburgh this May. His pre-tournament rating of 1012 increased to 1081 which would be good, according to the February rating list, for 35th in the country among 7 year olds. Way to go Felix!
I look forward to seeing the games this Wednesday at Wegmans. But I hope Marijan will be seeing them first at your Monday evening training sessions.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation Felix. It was 1.5 out of 3 then 2.5 out of 4. Did you win last game or before last?
ReplyDeleteSee you later.
Marijan
Fantastic!! Congratulations. I also look forward to seeing your games soon.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to our young Friend !
ReplyDeleteWell done and just a small sample of
new and greater accomplishments to
come.
I looked at the games. Felix lost last one but he had a win many times even near the end being pawn down. Resulting positions are very instructive. I chalange anybody in Wegmans today to play his opponent side. Any takers..?
ReplyDeleteOther games that Felix lost or drew he had had a winning positions. Something is missing there which prevent better position to convert to a win. Once Felix menages to do so we all will be losing to him. I do not mind. Hope that will be soon.
Good Luck, Felix! It is just matter of time.
